What Are SEUs?

Scrum Education Units (SEUs) are credits earned through learning, teaching, volunteering, community participation, and professional development activities related to Scrum and Agile.

Generally:

1 Hour of Learning Activity = 1 SEU

Candidates must accumulate 20 SEUs during each certification cycle.


Ways to Earn SEUs

You can earn SEUs through a variety of learning and engagement activities, including:

  • Attending webinars and workshops

  • Joining Agile conferences and meetups

  • Reading Scrum and Agile books

  • Writing blogs and articles

SEU Categories

Category A: Scrum Alliance Events

Activities include:

  • Scrum Alliance Global Gatherings

  • Regional Gatherings

  • Scrum Coaching Retreats

  • Scrum Alliance Sponsored Events

Maximum of 8 SEUs can typically be earned per day through event participation.


Category B: Scrum Alliance Courses

Earn SEUs by attending Scrum Alliance courses such as:

  • CSM

  • CSPO

  • A-CSM

  • A-CSPO

  • CSP-SM

  • CAL I

  • CAL II

  • Scrum@Scale Practitioner

Training may be instructor-led, online, or self-paced.


Category C: Outside Events

Participate in Agile and project management events offered by other organizations.

Examples include:

  • Agile conferences

  • Kanban training

  • Agile coaching programs

  • PMI-ACP training

  • SAFe certification courses


Category D: Volunteering

Share your expertise with the Agile community through:

  • Public speaking

Earn SEUs through self-directed learning activities such as:

  • Reading Agile books

Professionals can earn up to 15 SEUs through collaborative learning activities.


How to Submit SEUs

Follow these steps to submit your SEUs:

  1. Log in to your Scrum Alliance account.

  2. Open your certification dashboard.

  3. Navigate to Manage SEUs.

  4. Select the appropriate activity category.

  5. Enter activity details and learning hours.

  6. Submit the information.

  7. SEUs will be added to your account upon approval.


How to Renew Your CSM Certification

Once you have earned the required 20 SEUs:

  1. Log in to your Scrum Alliance account.

  2. Access your Certification Dashboard.

  3. Navigate to Renew Certifications.

  4. Select your CSM certification.

  5. Verify your SEU requirements.

  6. Pay the renewal fee.

  7. Submit your renewal request.

After successful payment and verification, your certification validity will be extended.

Grace Period for Renewal

CSM-certified professionals are provided with a 90-day grace period after certification expiration.

During this period, you can still complete the renewal requirements and reactivate your certification without starting the certification journey again.
