Insight into SEU categories
There are 6 categories that offer SEU credit. It is up to the professional to select the category and amass 20 SEUs to renew the certification. One hour of participation in each category amounts to 1 SEU.
- Category A - Scrum Alliance Gatherings
The Professional can participate in one or more events in this category. A maximum of 8 SEUs can be amassed in a day. The events in this category include:
- Scrum Coaching retreats
- Scrum Alliance Sponsored events
- Scrum Alliance Regional gatherings
- Scrum Alliance Global gatherings
- Category B - Scrum Alliance courses
- Professionals can enroll in courses such as CSM, CSPO, A-CSM, A-CSPO, CSD, CAL I, CAL II, and Scrum@Scale Practitioner. A day’s training can help in getting 8 SEUs.
- One can opt to continue education in Scrum related topics by enrolling in courses that can be in the form of online, face-to-face, live webinars, recorded training.
- Category C – Outside Events
- SEUs can be obtained by attending events that are conducted by other Scrum agencies apart from Scrum Alliance
- These events include Agile conferences, REP courses such as SAFe Agilists, Kanban, PMI-ACP, etc.
- Category D - Volunteering
- Professionals can share the knowledge they have gained in the form of lectures or presentations for free of cost.
- It provides a way of serving the community
- Category E – Individual Learning
- One can read a book on Scrum.
- The professional can blog, write articles, or even books related to Scrum.
- Watch videos related to Scrum.
- Category F – Collaborative Learning
- An individual can earn up to 15 SEUs in this category.
- Collaborative Learning with practitioners of Scrum.
Steps involved in the submission of SEUs for renewal
- Login to the certification account: https://www.scrumalliance.org/login
- Click ‘Hello,[Name] in the top right-hand corner of the website.
- Select ‘My dashboard’
- Scroll to ‘Scrum Education Units’ and select ‘Manage SEUs’
- Use ‘Select an Activity Type’ dropdown and choose the category that suits best.
- Update all required fields
- Credit points get calculated and added to your account.
Steps to follow for CSM certification renewal:
- Login to the certification account: https://www.scrumalliance.org/login
- Click ‘Hello,[Name] in the top right-hand corner of the website.
- Select ‘My dashboard’
- Scroll to ‘Actions’, click on ‘Renewal Certifications’
- Choose the CSM certification (Required SEU and Payment amount will be displayed)
- Confirm renewal and proceed to pay the CSM Renewal Fee.
A grace period of 90 days is provided for all certificates to renew their certifications before it becomes inactive.
